some pics of my latest mural, and one of an older one. The mural above was done in a house in the Marina. The entire bathroom became an underwater Happyfish wonderland.

The vineyard scene on the left was done for a kitchen in the Haight Asbury Heights district. It was like adding a window into the kitchen of this beautiful home. The colors show up in this photo as too bright. I love painting vineyard scenes from memory, I try to combine Italy and Napa, instead of picking one.

I did my first mural commission in Kailua, Hawaii at the age of 17. Since then most have been commissioned by parents for their children's spaces.

Showing the MuuMuus @ Willi K concert, latest projects

I was invited to show the MuuMuu's at Milli K's Nicasio concert in Marin! Byron, Heather, and Cindy White(who also modeled-see museum pics) attended with me, it was a beautiful day, and Willi K. is great. As usual, the gowns caused a bit of a stir.
I have added some Aloha wear documentation to the MuuMuuseum.com as well-see link above. A big thanks to my friends for being models to help showcase the over 100 MuuMuu's in my collection.

The Show I Curated for Larry Baumiller

San Francisco Artist Larry Baumiller creates art from found objects, mixing sculpture, textile art, and a theatrical vision. I curated this show in Oakland that combined wall hangings, bags, hats, vests, and 2 dresses(I was the fit model) all made from men's neck ties. None of the ties are cut up, there are silk, wool, polyester, and ties made of some material call "Wemblon". We also put the collection up in 2 storefronts. People really are astounded when they realize how all of the pieces are woven like baskets, and just how many ties are there. He now has about 2500 in his collection.

His other sculpture of found wood object assemblage will be the subject of an upcoming show. That's Larry, Michelle Zaffino (writer, mu'u model), and I above.

Meeting Masami Teraoka

I had the good fortune to meet the world renown painter Masami Teraoka at the Catherine Clarke Gallery in Union Square. Now C. Clarke Gallery is on Minna, by the Moma.
So there was Masami, and I come in with my brother Byron. I spot Masami accross the room. Right away we had the kamaaina connection. We had a nice time chatting and we stayed in touch. Growing up he was a local famous artist, whose work I saw in museums and on prints most of my childhood. His paintings opened up some very interesting dialog because of their somewhat shocking subject matter, and riveting, irreverent mix of very old Japanese painting style with new concepts. My brother also enjoyed meeting him. I was with the famous painter Hung Liu, who was my painting professor, and we talked of Masami. Masami- she says Hi. She was in the last issue of Art in America.

Tropicalismo-Exhibition @ the Gallery of Urban Art

TROPICALISMO

An unusual art exhibition combining a show of paintings and Alohawear. The paintings were a collection of nudes done in various media during the last 13 years, and some of the over 100 Mu'us from my collection. I had surprisingly many models. In fact, I was not planning on selling the gowns, but I had to sell 5. My friends would not take them off. However, we are in agreement that I will be able to access the Mu'us for future proper documentation.

Also in the show was the artist Charlie Milgrim, she is standing in front of her drawing, and now the owner of one of my favorite Mu'u Mu'us ever. That was really heartbreaking, but she sure looks great.
